Volunteers are needed for the Spring Flea Market, April 29. Volunteer hours for the flea market are also counted toward scholarship funding. We need 16 volunteers to man shifts from 4:30 – 8:00 a.m., 8:00 – 11:30 a.m., and 11:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
TWA Representative Report:
- Elections for the board of the Recreation Center recently boosted Claude Hunter to the role of President.
- Annexation – Ted has obtained numbers relating to expected expenses/taxes associated with being annexed by the City of Conroe. He received those numbers just recently and wishes to present them in a clear format at some time in the future, most likely at the next board meeting.
Neighborhood Services Report: Holly Steinke stepped in tonight for Alecia Klostermann, who was out of town. She brought numerous pamphlets reflecting the various services of her department – neighborhood watch, solicitations, etc. She also reminded everyone of the CB&I Triathlon May 6. Enter if you are able, stay clear of the vicinity of the race unless you are participating or cheering on the participants. Roads will be blocked, crowds will be dense, traffic will be a challenge to negotiate.
Social Committee Report: Planning is underway for the annual Spring Fling, scheduled for May 20, 12-4 p.m. The fling includes free admission to the pool. More details will be provided as the date approaches and during the April meeting. Planning is also underway for a party at Avalon Park, May 7, for the folks in Grogan’s Forest.
Annexation Committee Report: Meeting of the committee at Scott Singletary’s home next Monday, 4/24, at 7:30 p.m. Scott has been assimilating information on the City Council race, ascertaining where on the annexation issue people stand, most particularly those people who are running for a City Council seat. He’s also looking at the impact of home values if Harper’s Landing is annexed. He will present findings to the committee, gather information from them, and present it to the board and the public at the May meeting of CPVA.
Discussion arose as to the position of the board on the annexation issue. Just as we did not appreciate our future being decided by 5 persons on the Conroe Council, we believe Harper’s Landing residents would not appreciate the position of the board being based on personal bias – one way or another. We will, at some point in the very near future, take a “poll” of the residents in Harper’s Landing to determine which way the majority of the subdivision leans. If most residents want to be annexed by Conroe, we will not pursue an opposition to it. If they do not, the board will strive to prevent it. We will follow the wishes of the residents.
Miscellaneous: Susan Kooiman brought up the point that the CPVA website has not been updated since February. This is unacceptable. If Seth’s schedule does not permit timely updates of the site, someone else must take the responsibility. The same sentiment was echoed later by a resident, Laura Dean. Gail Carney said she would talk to Seth and update the board with information.
Larry Faith, guest, addressed the audience about the Spring Flea Market. With apologies, the CPVA Secretary fell ill and had to leave the meeting before hearing the details presented during the discussion.
