President’s Report: Gail called the meeting to order at 7:35.
Village Liaison Report, Alecia Klostermann: Community Services carries an extensive involvement throughout The Woodlands. Four village liaisons work to communicate issues from residents, coordinate the Neighborhood/Woodlands Watch and present programs to schools, apartments, senior living centers and community gatherings in general concerning drugs, safety and other issues relative to the residents of The Woodlands.
Alecia reminded all residents to keep not only their front doors locked but also their back doors. An individual in Sterling Ridge had been carrying a ladder, utilizing it to circumvent back fences, entering yards, trying back doors, and stealing from those houses where the back door was unlocked.
The mounted police seen throughout The Woodlands, she noted in response to a question from the floor, are a private organization but are able to hook into the communications of the sheriff and community police forces instantly upon seeing a crime, and are able to detain suspected offenders until police arrival.
The Community Governance Committee has scheduled an Open House/Forum on 5/23 at The Woodlands Community Church.
“Get Ready Woodlands” is slated for 5/17 in conjunction with the grand opening of the Walmart at Woodlands Pkwy and Hwy. 2978. It will host a variety of vendors and presentations aimed toward preparing residents for hurricane season.
TWA Representative Report:
Ted Stanley was unable to attend the meeting this evening.
Social News: Spring Fling is set for Saturday, 5/20. Free pool admission, drinks and hot dogs. Hours: 12 - 4 p.m.
4th of July float: Kevin and Jason are heading the Ideas and Decorating Committee for the float. Scott Singletary mentioned that it was very important we re-use as many materials from year to year as possible and thus keep costs contained.
Astros game: 9/23. Astros v. Cardinals, Saturday night start at 6:05. Tickets are $11/pp and include transportation to and from the game.
Annexation: Two meetings have been held recently; formal presentation of findings will be presented next month. The committee is currently inviting ideas for use of M.U.D. funds in the event that we are indeed annexed and the M.U.D. for our area ceases to exist.
Board members and residents indicated we need to hold a formal “vote” or poll to determine which way residents lean – if the majority of residents favor annexation, then we as a board will support that calling. Just as we opposed the idea of 5 individuals on the Conroe board deciding our fate, we oppose the idea of 11 board members determining our community stance on the issue without receiving quantitative opinions from the residents of the community.
Process for the poll will be discussed more at the June meeting.
